The TR2 Story
Designed by veteran hiker Terry Thompson, the TR2 represents every professional hiker’s dream of balancing comfort with practical realities. A hiker’s tent has to be light weight yet strong and durable. An easy to set up tent is highly desirable after a long day’s hike. It has to withstand wind and weather, too.
Terry took these desired features into account when he designed ... and redesigned ... the TR2 two-man tent (and, subsequently, the TR1 single-man tent). One redesign completely replaced the thread because it was too heavy. Only the lightest and strongest materials would do.

Terry also wanted the TR2 to be comfortable and useful for more than just sleeping. To be light-weight, most tents sacrifice comfort and utility. The hiker sleeps with the tent inches from the face. There’s no sitting up in these tents. In contrast, the TR2 (48” high) is designed so the hiker can sit up and change clothes inside the tent.

The floor area is greater than any other light-weight tent -- 36 square feet in the two-man tent and 22 square feet in the single-man tent. Two 11-square-foot vestibules (one in the single-man tent) provide extra utility. You can cook under it, sit under it, store your boots and other gear under it. It serves as a windbreak and a sunshade. The two-man tent has two doors, one on each side, so there’s no climbing over your tentmate.

So, why carry more? With the TR2 you carry less, but get more!
